Mike Owen is a lifelong skateboarder, coach, and the founder of San Diego Skateboarding. With years of experience skating and teaching, he has helped beginners, kids, and progressing skaters build confidence and improve the right way.
His coaching style is patient, safety-focused, and built around real progression. Whether someone is stepping on a board for the first time or looking to get more comfortable at the skatepark, Mike tailors each lesson to the student’s level and goals.
San Diego Skateboarding was created to give families and skaters a better way to learn — with personalized instruction, encouragement, and a coach who genuinely cares about helping each student grow.
More Than Skateboarding
I started skateboarding when I was just 5 years old, and it quickly became a huge part of my life.
Over the years, I pushed myself to progress, eventually turning pro and traveling around the world doing what I love.
Along the way, I realized something — skateboarding is one of the most challenging skills to learn,
but also one of the most rewarding. It builds confidence, resilience, and the ability to keep getting back up.
That’s what led me to start San Diego Skateboarding. I wanted to create a program that helps kids and beginners
learn the right way — safely, step-by-step, and in a way that actually makes them excited to keep progressing.
Today, I’ve coached hundreds of students across San Diego, and there’s nothing better than seeing someone go
from their first push to building real confidence on a board.
