Meet the Coach

Mike Owen

Pro Skater, Coach & Founder of San Diego Skateboarding

San Diego Skateboarding was founded by Mike Owen, a lifelong skateboarder with a passion for helping others learn the right way. After years of skating parks across San Diego and working with beginners of all ages, Mike built a program focused on safety, confidence, and real progression.

His coaching style is patient, encouraging, and tailored to each skater. Whether it’s a first-time rider learning balance or a more experienced skater working on new tricks, every lesson is designed to help students feel comfortable and improve step by step.

Why I Coach

Skateboarding has been a huge part of my life, and I’ve always loved helping others learn.
Seeing someone go from their first push to building real confidence on a board is what makes coaching so rewarding.
My goal is to create a fun, supportive environment where students can progress at their own pace and actually enjoy the process.

What Makes San Diego Skateboarding Different

Beginner-Friendly Approach

No experience needed — I break everything down step-by-step so students build confidence quickly.

Safety First Coaching

Pads, proper technique, and controlled progression are always part of every lesson.

Real Progress

Students aren’t just riding around — they’re learning real skills and improving each session.

Who This Is For

Whether your child is stepping on a skateboard for the first time or already has some experience,
these lessons are designed to meet them where they’re at.
I work with beginners, intermediate riders, and kids who just want to build confidence and have fun in a structured environment.
